The Christmas break is now well and truly a distant memory and our players are back to work at pre-season training.

Training sessions for both the men and women are at KRO and will continue on Monday and Wednesday nights until after the Adelaide Cup long weekend, when we will move to Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Our new senior coach, Daryl Spencer, has settled in well and is working with the playing group to develop their skills, football craft and fitness. We have had reasonable numbers on the track but will look to build on the numbers as we head towards the first round. As you may be aware, the first round has been pushed back to after the AFL’s "Gather Round”, which results in our first round being April 22nd.

The women’s program is looking good, with around 50 girls committed to play. We had already confirmed with the League that OIFC would be fielding two women’s teams and that our preference was to remain in Division One. Dr Brian Gue has been doing all the heavy lifting with the women’s program and I am happy to confirm that the committee has endorsed him as the A grade Coach for 2023. The Club is looking to add to the A grade women’s coaching panel to assist Brian with Jason Bailey a confirmed assistant already. We would like to add another assistant if possible.

The confirmation of the two teams and with Brian taking the A grade position results in the need for a B grade coach. The Club will be actively advertising as we seek to fill the position.

Please see below the coaching panels and some associated roles that remain vacant:

A GRADE MEN: Daryl Spencer

B GRADE MEN: Tim Rice

C GRADE MEN: Nathan Bailey

D GRADE MEN: Andrew Twynstra

A GRADE WOMEN: Brian Gue

A GRADE WOMEN ASSIST: Jason Bailey (one position vacant)

B GRADE WOMEN : Vacant

B GRADE WOMEN ASSIST: Vacant

If you would like to join or assist in filling these roles, please do not hesitate to contact John Vagnarelli, women’s football director, via email: jvagnarelli@bigpond.com

The Club remains in a strong position as we head into 2023, fielding six teams, with our senior men’s and women’s teams in Division One. This remains a great accomplishment for our Club and we remain committed to building on the success of the recent past.

As always, we will be seeking assistance from our supporter base with various jobs around the Club. Additionally, we will be seeking the financial support that keeps the Club viable, whilst continuing to maintain player subscriptions at a reasonable level. We will be launching our Sponsorship and Membership plans in the near future and I ask that you consider what you can contribute to the Club’s health and security.

The Nelson MERCHANDISE portal is now open for those seeking any apparel and can be accessed via: https://nelsonteamwear.com.au/club/oifc

Whilst 2023 will be a challenging year on the field, as every year is in Division One, we are prepared for the challenges and are working hard to achieve our best.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions, queries or believe you can assist in anyway.

As always,

GO IGGIES
