Luke McLean - Mental Health Awareness Night

Huge thanks to Luke from iamworthmore for sharing his story and experience about mental health. We had a strong number of our playing group attend the session and I know it was well received across the group. He left us with some information/takeaways which I'll put below. If you need someone to talk to or be pointed in the right direction please contact us on the website here or email media@oifc.com.au or anyone you feel most comfortable with at the club. All communication is of course confidential. Message from Luke Remember that we are all fighting battles, we all have problems we are currently dealing with BUT YOU ARE NOT ALONE!⠀ Last night I had the pleasure of speaking at @Oldignatiansfc in front of both their Mens & @oldignatianswomens teams. ⠀ The key messages I wanted to get across is:⠀ 1️⃣ ) Become aware of what is making you unhappy, frustrated, sad etc. and identify if you are using activities/substances that are masking that feeling ⠀ 2️⃣ ) We all have pain... are you talking about yours and looking to manage it or are you suppressing it?⠀ 3️⃣ ) You are not alone... let's talk about how we are feeling and what we are going through AND on the flip side, LISTEN NON-JUDGMENTALLY with open hears and just show that you care and LOVE them⠀ 4️⃣ ) Mental Health & Mental Illness are separate, are you INTERESTED or COMMITTED to being mentally healthy?⠀ These messages are messages I love sharing, it isn't always easy to do because sometimes my Depression & Anxiety can get in the way of me performing but in order to REDUCE STIGMA we need to continue to educate!
