200 Games for the Club
At the Club’s
AGM in December 2006, the following were awarded Life Membership
2 former Club Presidents were awarded life membership, to recognise the efforts they have given to the club in the past, both on and off the field.
Brendan Devine
In a career spanning from 1987 until 2000, Brendan notched up 131 games for the club. During that time, he was A-Grade captain in 1994 and Club President for2 seasons, 1999 and 2000.
Tom Sexton
Also beginning his career in 1987, Tom played 135 games before retiring in 1997. His efforts with the club did not finish there however, as he took over from Brendan as Club President in 2001, continuing on in that role for 3 seasons until 2003.
Last year, at the Club’s
AGM in December 2005, the following were awarded Life Membership
Ted Depoi
Joined the club in 1980 and started in the B's and then played A's where
he played both wing and full forward. Played 114 Games, including the
B Grade Premiership of 1981.
Club President in 1987 & from 1992 – 95, during which he secured
the Club’s financial viability by negotiating the long term deal
with Adrian and Leon Saturno.
When Ted came to the club his business smarts decided we needed an audit
of the club’s assets. All we could come up with was a Pie warmer.
However, when his Presidential reign finished, the club was in a very
strong financial position.
Ted has also been a long time sponsor of the Club, and continues to
contribute today.
Bevan Ferrari
Joined the club in 1985 & played mainly A Grade until Ian Knight
was appointed A Grade Coach, which coincided with the end of his A Grade
Career. Played 213 Games, including 5 B Grade Premierships, and was
the winner of the Best & Fairest Award in a Premiership Season.
Club President in 1996 – 98, during which Ian Knight’s coaching
reign coincidentally ended.
Bevan has also been a long time sponsor of the Club, and continues to
contribute today.
Richard Scollin
Played approx 30 games, including the infamous game V Scotch, where
he kicked 6 goals.
Assistant C Grade Coach in Premiership Year 1995.
B & Grade Coach for a total of 7 years. Also team manager for all
three teams over the years.
Although never officially on the Committee, Scoll has worked harder
off the field than many committee members.
John Vagnarelli
Club Record Holder - 350+ Games, including 5 Premierships and was the
winner of the Best & Fairest Award in a Premiership Season.
Has served several stints on the committee including heading up the
Social committee. This season he was the official oval waterer, and
was responsible for the lush green oval that Railways was. He also took
it upon himself to repair spectator seating at Railways.
Great character, and can always be relied upon to boost team morale.
Famous for such quotes as “It started with laughter and ended
with tears” and “It’s not a popularity contest”.
While the following exchange with 1999 B Grade Coach Hibby is legendary:
Hibby: “Everyone has to lift this week. Vagnarelli, you know why
you were dragged last week.”
Vags: “Yeah, coaching error!”
John (Cheesey) Ward
Started in 1977, played 219 games, including the B Grade Premiership
of 1981, & the losing C Grade GF's in 1983 and 1989.
Long time committee member & is still seen supporting the club.
He won a heap of trophies for the B and C Grade. One day he kept his
own stats and had 33 kicks in a side that got belted - playing Full
back when Woody Districts kicked 34goals-32points helped him accumulate
the kicks.
A great character who made a huge impact at most social functions.
Greg (Keckle) Ward
Started in 1983 and played 152 games, including the C Grade Premiership
of 1995 when he was clearly Best On Ground. Infamous for King hitting
Little Stewie at Ferryden Park.
Coached C Grade for 2 years
Umpired B & C Grade for several years, much to Brad Thomas’s
annoyance.
Committee member for 5 years
In the late 1990’s he was always seen cooking the BBQ, or running
the tuck shop. Funnily enough during the lean times of the mid to late
Eighties it was Keckles committed attendance to that Pie warmer that
helped get us through financially. Some days he was even on the half
back flank and had to come off at 1/2 time to turn the pie warmer on
and stack it with pies.
Famous for his wackiness and unusual injuries. He once missed several
games with a sore knee caused by excessive walking after he lost his
license for DUI.
